Clean up the water and find a way to reduce the moisture. Ever wanted to fix a crack or hole in a fibreglass boat. The text book way of replacing the floor is to remove the consoles seat boxes and remove all. Sand and grit and dirt in the bottom of your boat can over time badly scratch and discolor the floor of your boat.

But it does have a good hull and runs great. Do nothing and hope i don t step through this. The stringers still feel pretty strong. Working from beneath the hole inside the boat use a paint brush to spread a layer of gel coat that s about the thickness of a toothpick onto the waxed counter top backer at the top of the hole.

The best thing you can do when fixing a boat floor is to use epoxy. Start removing the old damaged material using an electric saw to cut it. Structurally the floor is in bad shape soft spots bad cracks etc. First and foremost you should be proactive.

As you wait for the gel coat to harden mix the epoxy resin and hardener for the fiberglass. Boat floor is fiberglass front and rear decks are carpeted over fiberglass. In this short video i take a minute to fix up an old bad repair. Often you can spruce it up quickly with just a new layer of gelcoat.

If you notice excess moisture or something that may eventually lead to mold or rot you should act immediately. When the sound becomes sharp and the material gives good feedback to the touch you know that it s stronger. Ones that come in two parts are also stronger and preferred. Spray foam is cheap and easy to spray onto the hull prior to installing the decking but it also absorbs water like well.

This boat doesn t have much if any value. Step 1 remove the damaged flooring. The extra layer of gelcoat will also increase the weight of your boat a bit. If the stringers and bulkheads are rotten get them replaced with fiberglass ones.

The good news is that protecting your boat floors doesn t have to be too difficult. Your boat will sit lower in the water than it was designed to thereby placing your outboard leg lower as well. You do need to make sure that you use an epoxy that is waterproof. A soft spot in a boat floor can be surprisingly tricky to diagnose.

This won t repair major dents and chips or add much strength to the floor. The most common material used for boat flooring is bc plywood and it is also used for fiberglass boats in particular.
